Colin Farrell is now reportedly attached to new film ‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ a Disney project that follows the battle between Walt Disney and P.L. Travers for the rights to the ‘Mary Poppins’ book.

In the film, Farrell is set to play Mr. Travers, the man who inspired the stern and strict father in the ‘Mary Poppins’ book. Farrell will be in good company with other Hollywood A-Listers Tom Hanks, who will depict Walt Disney, and Emma Thompson, who will play writer P.L. Travers.

According to RTE Entertainment, the film will alternate between the 1960s and 1907 and will document the 14 year long battle between Disney and Travers for the right to the book. ‘Mary Poppins’ was first published in 1934 and was later turned into a film by Disney in 1964. Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews starred in the now iconic film.

Travers was not pleased with the screen version of her work, particularly the animation sequences.

The project is set to start filming later this year with director John Lee Hancock at the helm.
