Irish actor Chris O’Dowd recently said he intends to keep his natural Irish accent in his upcoming film roles, particularly because “chicks dig it.”

O’Dowd, who married TV reporter Dawn Porter, made a name for himself while playing an Irish cop in the 2011 box office hit ‘Bridesmaids.’

While his Irish accent may be a perk for him with the ladies now, O’Dowd told OK! Magazine he recalls getting teased a bit for his country accent when he went to college in Dublin.

''I remember when I first went to university in Dublin, because I'm a country boy I used to get teased for my country accent, so the idea that it's playing well in Hollywood I find to be funny.”

''I think I'm going to keep my Irish accent forever now in any movie I make, because chicks dig it and that's all I care about now! Now that I've been in a romantic comedy like ‘Bridesmaids,’ I just want to impress women!''

O’Dowd will be reprising his guest role on the second season of the hit HBO series ‘Girls.’ He’s made quite a name for himself, but said his family never had high hopes for him.

''I was the youngest in a long line of underachievers so there was no expectation and when I dropped out of college and then dropped out of drama school, no one really batted an eyelid. They were like, yeah of course you did, that is what we do. No, but seriously, they were very supportive.''

Speaking about his home of Ireland, O’Dowd says he doesn’t get to visit that much now that  he’s a Hollywood name.

"It's not as often as I would like. I come from a big family and I seem to go back for religious ceremonies so it's a lot of christenings and weddings. I go back about four times a year to brush up on my accent."
