Following the success of the first 10 episodes of the TV comedy series – which debuted earlier this summer – FX Networks has opted to extend the run over the next two years with production set to begin next month and new shows in line to premiere as early as January.

Chuck Saftler, executive vice-president at FX Networks, insists the whole cast of the programme – which includes Selma Blair and Shawnee Smith – were "amazing" during the first 10 30-minute episodes and he is confident their impressive performances will continue to maintain the show's success.

He said: "Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first 10 episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years.

“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for 'Anger Management' to earn its back-90 order, and the series met and exceed those metrics.

“[Showrunner] Bruce Helford has created a sitcom that works extremely well in our pre-10 pm programming lineup."

Sources revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that Charlie's father Martin Sheen will reprise his role as the former 'Two and a Half Men' star's onscreen dad in around 20 of the forthcoming 90 episodes of 'Anger Management'.
