Although some might have thought the news that Bryan Cranston had been cast to play Lex Luthor in DC Comic’s sequel “Man of Steel” was too good to be true, outlets like Rolling Stone, Buzzfeed, the Daily Beast, Reddit, and yes, IrishCentral, bought it.

The rumor first emerged on Latino Review earlier in August. They said that the role could go to either British actor Mark Strong, star of AMC’s “Low Winter Sun” or Cranston. Then on August 23 Comic Book News reported that the “Breaking Bad” star had signed on to star in the movie alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.

Sadly on Tuesday MSN Entertainment's Parallel Universe reporter, Don Kaye, burst the world’s bubble, writing, “Despite the story getting picked up by numerous mainstream media outlets, there is not one shred of truth to it. It originated with a fan website that has been known for printing sheer fabrications to score hits -- which is why we won't name the site or link to it here."

He pointed out that if Cranston had signed up for 13 appearances he would be 70-years-old by the time it was completed.

But all is not doom and gloom. Cranston did tell Metro, “Give me a call...I like Lex Luthor. I think he’s misunderstood. He’s a loveable, sweet man."
