Irish bookies are betting on which of Hollywood's biggest stars will play Derry's world renowned singing priests in an upcoming film depicting their rise to fame.

Derry brothers Eugene and Martin O'Hagan and Father David Delargy form The Priests, a music group who have achieved international superstardom since their first album debuted in 2008.

Last week, the group revealed on the  Late Late show that a movie about their story is in the works.

Now bookies Paddy Power are giving people a chance to wager on which A-listers will end up playing the roles of the singing trio.

Gary Oldman, Kevin Spacey and Denis Quaid are currently in the lead.

Spokeswoman Sharon McHugh told the Derry Journal that Paddy Power are betting just 7/4 that the studios turn The Priests story into a Hollywood blockbuster.

“They’re very likeable fellows and given their rapid rise to success we wouldn’t be surprised if Hollywood snapped up their story,” she added.

British actor Gary Oldman is the 8/1 favorite on Paddy Power’s list, followed by U.S. actors Denis Quaid and Kevin Spacey at 10/1.

Actor Liam Neeson, at 12/1, comes in ahead of Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt who are further down the list of odds at 20/1 and 40/1.

Punters can also bet on Tom Cruise at 50/1, Jim Carrey at 80/1 or  Matthew McConaughey at 100/1.

The Priests are set to embark on a tour of America next month.
