Pattinson accidentally on purpose gets hit by cab in desperate bid for IrishCentral votes... Click here

Vanity Fair recently asked readers to vote for the Most Handsome Man in the World, and none other than Mr. Twilight, Robert Pattinson, trounced the competition and took home the title with 51 percent (271,000) of the votes.

Commentators on VF’s site pointed to Pattinson’s acting talent, sense of humor, voice, accent and maturity as just some of the reasons he beat out the likes of Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp in the contest.

Pattinson is now filming “Remember Me” in New York City with Pierce Brosnan, who plays his father in the film. With two attractive, talented actors in such close proximity, we can’t help but compare the delicious looking duo.

And so, with no furhter ado, IrishCentral presents an RPatz-Irish 007 showdown!

In a battle of looks, talent and personality, will our Irish James Bond take home the cake, or will everyone’s favorite vampire hold on to his reigning title?

Film roles

Perhaps it’s not fair to compare the two men’s acting careers – Pierce is 33 years older – but at the ripe age of 23, Pattinson has some pretty decent roles to his name.

He’s played Salvador Dali (“Little Ashes”), a handsome, intelligent wizard Cedric Diggory (“Harry Potter”) and an insanely iconic, fiercely loved vampire Edward Cullen (“Twilight”).

But alas, Golden Globe nominee Brosnan has joined the ranks of acting legends Roger Moore and Sean Connery in playing James Bond, one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood.

He’s also played Robinson Crusoe (“Robinson Crusoe”), King Arthur (“Quest for Camelot”), an ABBA-singing hunk (“Mamma Mia!”) and a rich and successful playboy (“The Thomas Crown Affair”).

Either way, Bond beats vampire any day.

WINNER: Brosnan

Other talents

Apart from acting, Pattinson is a talented musician, proficient at both the guitar and the piano. He knows how to scuba dive, and is great at darts.

Brosnan has the business angle covered, owning his own production company, Irish DreamTime, is a fisherman and is a fire eater (he performed this in the circus at a young age, and resurrected his talent in an episode of “Remington Steele”).

So normally, fire eating, being randomly amazing, would trump all, but having seen Brosnan’s cringe-inducing song and dance act in “Mamma Mia!”, I’m going to give this one to the softer-on-the-ears Pattinson.

WINNER: Pattinson

Sex appeal

Yes, this is a subjective category, but there are hard facts to draw upon:

In 2001, Brosnan was chosen as People’s Sexiest Man Alive. In 2008, Pattinson was named “Entertainment Tonight’s” Top Hunk and Yahoo’s Top Movie Heartthrob. Now, as mentioned, he’s Vanity Fair’s Most Handsome Man.

People’s title is still a bit more prestigious than the ones earned by Pattinson.

RPatz was a one-time model, but the dapper Brosnan clearly showers more often than the messy “Twilight” star, and Pierce doesn’t look like an “old Irish alcoholic,” as Pattinson accurately describes his appearance.

WINNER: Brosnan

Intelligence

Both actors have some smarts – they’ve made it in a tough biz, and have both proven to be articulate, competent individuals in interviews.

But Brosnan has two Honorary Doctorates to his name, from the Dublin Institute of Technology and the University College Cork.

When he was around Pattinson’s age, the Irish actor graduated from the prestigious MA program at the Drama Center in London, England.

Granted, Pattinson is young yet, but Brosnan takes the cake in this category.

WINNER: Brosnan

Sense of humor

Pattinson has delivered up some gems, including the following:

“Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as 'Claudia'! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.”

“‘Twilight’ is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, but it's had the opposite effect. I get letters that say "I'm going to kill myself if you don't watch ‘High School Musical 2’ with me.”

“I'm just a big, hard tool.”

Most quotes from Brosnan, on the other hand, are rather sincere, ranging from comments on his acting like: “I think that all the films I've ever made are personal, even James Bond, because it's so much of myself, so much of who I am as a man and as an actor. You have to invest yourself in every character that you portray.”

To comments on his upbringing, such as: “I've always been a bit of a loner. I've always felt like an outsider, and because I didn't have a mother or father figure, I brought myself up. I made my own rules, and from the pain of not having a mother there came the great strength of being able to deal with things on a one-to-one basis throughout my life.”

Obviously Pierce wins in the maturity contest, but as far as sense of humor goes…

WINNER: Pattinson

Values

Brosnan is an advocate for same-sex marriage, gay adoption, gun control and protecting the environment. He’s an ambassador for UNICEF Ireland and has been active in Greenpeace.

When his wife passed away from cancer in 1991, Brosnan adopted her children: “Cassie has made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am. She's forever embedded in every fiber of my being.”

He’s now married to Keely Shaye Smith, who recently came under fire for her weight, but Brosnan came to her defense, stating: “I love my wife’s curves!”

Brosnan and Smith recently visited the White House to discuss the worldwide preservation of whales, and have donated thousands of dollars to various environmental causes.

Pattinson may be a stand-up guy who admirable values, but he has yet to show much for it. To give him credit, he did pucker up for charity, offering a kiss at an auction benefiting the American Foundation for AIDS Research at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. But that about sums it up.

Perhaps the young RPatz can tap into his charitable side by learning from his older, wiser “Remember Me” co-star.

WINNER: Brosnan

OVERALL WINNER: PIERCE BROSNAN

So Irish actor Pierce Brosnan comes out the winner with 4-2.

With a little more acting training and perhaps a hair wash, Pattinson just might be able to take the title from his Irish co-star in years to come.

But for now, our Irish 007 is the reigning IrishCentral heartthrob.
