Actress Anne Hathaway may be finalizing a deal to star in Christopher Nolan’s new science fiction film “Interstellar.”

Nolan is known to be secretive about his films and details on the new film are sparse. Nolan will direct and his brother Jonathan, who worked on “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” and “Memento” will write the script. Matthew McConaughey is also set to star in the film. The film is a co-production between Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros.

“Interstellar” follows a group of explorers who travel through a wormhole to an alternate dimension. Allegedly the film is based on Caltech astrophysicist Kip Thorne’s scientific theories about time travel and alternate dimensions. McConaughey’s character is named Cooper, but not much else is known about him. McConaughey and Hathaway are expected to play major roles.

The film has been in the works with Warner Bros. since 2007 when Jonathan Nolan wrote the script. Steven Spielberg was working on the project at one point, but dropped out for unknown reasons. On January 9, 2013 Nolan signed on to rewrite the script. He added some of his own story elements and changed some of the existing plot points.

“Interstellar” will be Nolan’s first film since the conclusion of “The Dark Knight” trilogy. Shooting is supposed to being this year and “Interstellar” has a planned released date in November 2014.

Hathaway was recently seen in the film adaptation of the musical “Les Miserables.” She won her first Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role as Fantine. She also won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. Hathaway worked with Nolan before in “The Dark Knight Rises” and in the title role of “Catwoman.” McConaughey was recently seen in the 2012 summer hit “Magic Mike.”
