James Woods, the director of the upcoming movie “An American Girl,” has been singing the praises of his soon to be leading lady Kristen Stewart.

Woods took time out at the premiere of “Welcome to the Rileys” to talk to MTV News about Stewart’s involvement in his movie. “An American Girl” which, supposedly, will be Stewart’s next movie following “Twilight: Breaking Dawn”.

He said, “She’s been committed to it for two years now, and we’re just about ready to go now in the spring.”

This movie is based on a script by Tim Metcalfe, the screenwriter of “The Haunting of Connecticut." It tells the story of a high school grad who is recorded having sex unbeknownst to her and joins the Marines to escape humiliation.

Before Woods even considered Stewart for the role he had heard great things about her from his friends Sean Penn and Dennis Quaid. He remembered when he realized he wanted her for the script. He said, “She’s the one I want. She’s it.”

He continued “Her insight into the script was so perceptive and prescient as it turns out that I was overwhelmed with what a true professional and what a true artist she was, beyond her talent…She’s got a real brain for script analysis. She’s just been totally devoted throughout all this fame. It’s never dented her at all. She’s been terrific from day one up until this very minute.”

Woods says that he’s very much looking forward to getting started on the movie with Stewart. He said “She has been steadfast and true in her commitment, which did not surprise me, because when I started working with her on the script she was so insightful.”

The movie is set for release in 2012.
