Irish actor Jamie Dornan will have all eyes on him next February when the film version of the wildly successful “mommy porn” novel Fifty Shades of Grey debuts, but you may remember that Dornan was actually the second choice to play Christian Grey.

The plum part originally went to British actor Charlie Hunnam, but he withdrew from the project a few weeks after being cast because of commitments to his hit FX show Sons of Anarchy . . . or so the story goes.

Anyway, Hunnam’s loss was Dornan’s gain, but he says he still harbors regrets over not being able to showcase his version of Grey.

“I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken it on in the first place,” Hunnam said last week.

“When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it’s heartbreaking not to be able to play him.”

Still, Hunnam said he remains supportive of the project and is looking forward to seeing the finished product.

“If they invite me to the premiere, I will go and see it there,” he said. “If not, I’ll go and buy some tickets on opening night.”

Dornan, meanwhile, will be showing a lot of skin in the racy flick, and the former male model with the perfect bod isn’t happy about the way he looks.

"I don't like my physique. Who does? I was a skinny guy growing up, and I still feel like that same skinny kid,” he tells the current issue of Interview magazine.

Though tending to his baby girl – he and his wife Amelia Warner had their first child in November – can be tiring, he wouldn’t trade it for the world.

"I don't understand people complaining about babies. Sure, I miss a bit of sleep, but look at the rewards—better than not being able to sleep because of a hangover,” he said. True that.
