Irish songstress Roisin O returns to New York this week as part of the Irish Arts Center series "SongLives." The Dublin singer-songwriter is delighted to be back in the city performing alongside her friend Fiach Moriarty.

“I’m really looking forward to it now. I was featured on Fiach’s single “Married to Music” so it’s great to be playing with him again,” she told IrishCentral.

The daughter of Irish music legend Mary Black and sister of Coronas front man, Danny O’Reilly, Roisin O shot to fame with her debut album “The Secret Life of Blue,” in 2012. Since then she has toured with Lionel Richie and her very own “Mam,” as she refers to her.

Roisin O took time out to chat with IrishCentral about her busy year touring in Germany with Ryan Sheridan and then with her Mam, writing, traveling and her plans or a new album in 2015.

Her gigs in Germany saw her make great headway with a new audience and her album has recently being released there.

“I got to play in front of some really great crowds. The German crowds are just so open to all kinds of music so that tour was amazing,” Roisin told IrishCentral.

“After that I was on tour with my Mam opening her German tour and I hope to get back there later this year too.”

Scanning over Roisin O’s active Facebook page would make any seasoned traveler jealous. Most recently Roisin O has traveled to Dubai, for one gig and four club gigs in Tokyo.

It seems that she doesn’t stay still for long, but this summer Roisin will take time out to work on her upcoming single, to be released in September, and her new album for 2015.

“This summer we’re going to go down to my parents' house, where I spent most of my summers as a kid, in Dingle, County Kerry,” she explained.

“It’s just absolutely beautiful down there. My Mam recorded an album there and the Coronas have recorded a lot of stuff there too. I’m going to head down and do a couple of demos and then head off to London to finish off the single.”

This October Roisin will be back in the US as the opening act for her Mam, Mary Black’s, tour. Having already toured together they know what to expect and they’re looking forward to getting back on the road.

Roisin said, “It’s great. It think she loves having a girl on the road with her, all the band and crew are all guys. We have great craic too. I’m also kind of like her PA back stage as well, I double up in that way. It’s great craic.

It’s also great to get to my Mam’s audience. We try to keep in on the down-low. We don’t let on that I’m her daughter in the advertisements or anything, but usually by the end of the gig she lets it slip.”

And a very proud Mam she must be. Roisin is also heading back to Dublin this June 25 to entertain the crowds at President Michael D Higgins' annual garden party at the Áras an Uachtaráin, in Phoenix Park.

Roisin O performed for a special St. Patrick’s Day in 2013 for the President alongside Bono, Glen Hansard, The Script and Lisa Hannigan.

As she said, “That’s always an honor to be invited there.”
