Irish Film New York (IFNY), a film organization that screens contemporary Irish cinema, has announced the line-up for its fourth annual festival, kicking off the first weekend of October.

In addition to screening five new fiction and non-fiction contemporary Irish films, the festival will celebrate the work of Oscar-winning Irish writer and director Jim Sheridan with a partial retrospective of his famed works.

His celebrated films “My Left Foot,” starring Daniel Day Lewis as Christy Brown, “In the Name of the Father,” and “In America” will be screened; Sheridan will be in attendance during “In America” to discuss his upcoming work with HBO, his new film “Secret Scripture” and his relationship with New York.

“We are really honored to be hosting Jim Sheridan this year, as no one else defines the relationship between Irish and American film like Jim,” said Niall McKay, the executive director of IFNY. “He has pioneered Irish-American storytelling.”

“It is very fitting to have him be part of the festival this year as he is one of the biggest supporters of up-and-coming Irish talent, which is what this festival aims towards.”

The line-up of contemporary films includes three US premieres “Poison Pen,” “Broken Song” and “Gold,” a comedy featuring Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams. The two New York premieres are entitled “Out of Here” and “Love Eternal.”

All films are co-presented by the Glucksman Ireland House and will screen in NYU’s Cantor Center at 38 East 8 Street from October 3-5.

Irish Film New York aims to foster partnerships between Irish and US-based film institutes, producers, and directors by holding screenings, panel discussions, and filmmaker events that share the best of Irish film with US audiences.

Executive director Niall McKay is an Emmy award-winning independent producer and director and the co-founder of the San Francisco Irish Film Festival and the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival.
