Makers & Brothers, the Irish team that offers a playful curation of everyday design and craft, are coming back to New York.

This weekend, Makers & Brothers will rebuild their iconic little shed in the verdant urban garden of The Standard, East Village. The Shed will operate as a shop and workshop - an exciting temporary installation, it will host a fresh edit of Makers & Brothers design and craft favorites such as new Irish cut crystal, the softest mohair travel blankets and playful ceramics.

Alongside the shop there will be a print workshop run by design duo Superfolk. This workshop will explore hand-cut lino printing and color tempering - a simple yet sophisticated process with poetic results. The workshop will make modern a wonderfully primary process overlooked in today’s digital world, a process with welcome irregularities and subtle depths of color that cannot be achieved by any other method. The print imagery will depict wild botanicals such as nettle, gorse, and dandelion. A series that is shaped by Superfolk’s way of life in Ireland - a way of life that is all about the outdoors, rambling, foraging and exploring.

To celebrate the opening of M&B’s New York Shed designer Max Lamb has developed an exclusive whiskey cocktail infused with wild botanicals and will be in charge of the drinks on the opening night (Thursday May 14).

“Makers & Brothers sells objects of integrity and depth, real objects from tangible beginnings, loved objects. We are very excited to have both Superfolk and Max Lamb involved in this year’s event - designers with a wonderfully human approach,” said Jonathan Legge, Creative Director of Makers & Brothers.

Makers & Brothers

Makers&Brothers is a design led multichannel retail operation developed by two brothers, Jonathan and Mark Legge. They are a content driven retail venture founded on a belief in the simple things; the handmade, objects of integrity, contemporary vernaculars.

They define craft as a process: a production by hand or machine. Alongside www.makersandbrothers.com they run an ever-evolving series of retail events at home and abroad. The team creates new iterations of the Shed for events in New York, London, Dublin and Berlin. Each event offers a new array of products by designers and makers from all over the world plus work by the M&B in house design team who are actively working with makers to produce new and exclusive objects of use, the simple, beautiful and sometimes nicely odd. They believe in a quiet, human approach to retail and hope you like what they have to offer.

Superfolk

Superfolk design and make simple, beautiful home goods for people who love the wild outdoors. They hold a passion for wildlife, nature and wild food and respect material heritage. They celebrate the natural world and share a passion for it through their products. Imbued with a poetic optimism for sustainable living, they make quality, durable objects that embrace the patina of use and the passing of time.
