If you’re looking a new perspective on the world in 2015 who better to provide it than a man that’s literally seen the big picture. In Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield’s latest video, filmed in Dublin, he reflects on the state of the world and he’s pretty optimistic about the future.

As he says himself:

“Our world is not as bad a place as we often feel it to be. It is easy to look to the future and lament how far there is left to go, but sometimes it is helpful to stop and reflect on just how far we've come.

“This New Years, my resolution is to help make our world a better place. What's yours?”

Hadfield’s end of year video was filmed at Filmbase, on Curved Street, in Temple Bar, Dublin.

The Canadian astronaut has unofficially been adopted by the Irish people and has become a regular visitor. His grá (love) for Ireland is so well known that he’s even become an ambassador for Ireland’s tourism industry and has created beautiful promotional videos of the Wild Atlantic Way and Guinness Storehouse, all the while handing out life lessons, like only Hadfield can.

The commander initially stole Ireland’s hearts on St. Patrick’s Day 2013 when he tweeted in Irish “Tá Éire fíorálainn! Land of green hills & dark beer. With Dublin glowing in the Irish night.” He was the first man to use the Irish language from space.

Hadfield went on the win over the world with his videos explaining everyday life on a space mission and creating his own music videos, including an amazing cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” (sadly the video has since been taken down due to copyright).

The retired commander’s amazing social media presence was kicked off by his web-savvy son Evan, who has accompanied him on some of his trips to Ireland. Although he had previously visited the Emerald Isle it was his daughter Kristin, who is a PhD Psychology student at Trinity College Dublin, who made Ireland a priority mission for him when he landed on solid ground.

Here’s to 2015 and more words of wisdom from Ireland’s adopted astronaut.
