Being an attractive actor doesn’t always get you the part, Pierce Brosnan revealed in a HuffPost Live interview last week.

The Irish actor told the story of how he had called Frank McCourt, author of the 1996 memoir ‘Angela’s Ashes,’ to tell him he wanted to be cast in the film adaptation of the book.

"I remember reading 'Angela's Ashes,' and I really wanted to play the part in 'Angela's Ashes,' being an Irishman," said Brosnan "[I] called Frank McCourt up to throw my hat in the ring, and he said, 'Nope. Too handsome. Too handsome.'"

The 61-year-old film and television star has learned to take such rejection in stride.

"You're either too short, you're too tall. You're too this, you're too that," he said. "Again, it goes back to the judgement factor. You have to be comfortable in your own skin, and wear it lightly and just get on with the job. Be good to people, be kind to people, show up, read the lines, hit the mark and go home."
