Irish fans of EL James hit novel '50 Shades of Grey' may have to settle for a tamer version of the movie based on the book when it comes out next year.

Producers have indicated they will make two versions of the $40m film starring Dakota Johnson and Irish actor Jamie Dornan. The trailer for the film was released last week.

The Irish Independent reports that he first version, to be released on February 14, will be one tailored for mainstream audiences and is expected to receive an 18 classification in Ireland, but a second, raunchier version will be released sometime later with an NC-17 classification in US.

An Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) spokesperson has said that no such classification, similar to an X-rating, exists in Ireland.

Dana Brunetti, the producer of the movie, said that fans of the book trilogy really wanted to see the naughtier version.

"Everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it, then have that NC-17 version out there as well," she said.
