An Irish couple got their summer holiday off to a flying start when they got engaged to rapturous applause on their Aer Lingus flight.

On a flight to Lanzarote last weekend, the couple took over the plane’s PA system as the wannabe husband got down on one knee. “I was going to do this in October,” he says, “but I can’t wait that long.”

Calling his future wife up to the front of the cabin, his shock proposal takes off much to the delight of the onlooking passengers and crew.

Avoiding a crash landing, his wife-to-be happily accepts to further applause from the other passengers.

“I’m going to kill you,” she mutters before sealing the deal with a kiss.

Aer Lingus announced in a statement that the love-struck man got in contact with them before the flight to ensure the help of cabin crew and to have champagne and flowers at the ready.

Aer Lingus has been subject to a wave of compliments in the past week due to similar accommodating acts with their passengers, in particular the kindness they showed to the families and friends of the Berkeley victims.
