Looks like humans aren’t the only ones enjoying the warm weather in Ireland…
A group of swimmers and kayakers out for a day in the waters of South Harbor off of Cape Clear Island, Co. Cork yesterday got a big shock when they realized a shark was in their midst.
Niamh Ní Drisceoil of Fastnet Tour Company saw the whole thing unfold and caught it on video:
Fortunately, it was a friendly basking shark. The second-largest fish in the world after whale sharks, basking sharks survive on plankton and are not aggressive towards people. To feed, they often follow the plankton up to the surface of the water, which accounts for their reputation for basking in the sun.
