Kendall Wanderers

Kendall Wanderers will have two sides in BSSL Division 1 in 2015 following the B team’s promotion to the top flight.

The Bs, managed superbly by Dave Power and Phil O’Driscoll, secured promotion with a 5-0 win over Groton House last Wednesday. Wanderers defied the stormy conditions at Pine Banks Park in Melrose to produce a brilliant performance.

Chris Scearbo hit a hat-trick on the night, with Colm Caffrey and John Crowley also getting on the scoresheet. The victory also kept the B side’s hopes of winning the league alive, but they were unable to overcome MIT on Saturday to realise that ambition.

Derrick James found the net against the Students, and the 2-1 defeat to the Division 2 champions did not take away from what has been an excellent season.

It has been a much more trying year for the C team, and they signed off in BSSL Division 3N with a 1-0 defeat to Coastal United FC. Injuries and high player turnover did not help their cause in 2014, but there were definite signs of improvement in the Fall.

The Over 30 A side also lost at the weekend, as they went down 3-2 against NEOTHSL Division 2S leaders Natick FC on Sunday morning.

There was better news on the Over 30 B team front, with Lar Barden’s men recording a 4-2 win over Boston Pops Athletic Club in NEOTHSL Division 5S. Justin Teman opened the scoring before Tim Boomer added a second for Kendall. The Pops hit back, however, and two goals for them left it tied at 2-2 at the break.

Two second-half goals from Chris Pearce (the first coming from the penalty spot) settled the matter in Kendall’s favour.

The victory sets up a crunch tie with Club Recordacoes De Portugal next week. The result of that encounter will go a long way to determining who will top the division and earn promotion to Division 4.
