The Green Briar soccer club’s annual end of season awards ceremony and social event will take place at the Green Briar Pub in Brighton, on Fri., Dec 12. As in year’s past, the night will have an ‘Ugly Sweater’ theme. Friends of the club, wives and girlfriends are invited to celebrate with the players, as the event marks the end of the club’s most successful season. As well as enjoying the terrific atmosphere of the Green Briar Pub and festive tunes provided by DJ Dan Hallessy, the season’s awards will be presented to outstanding club members for their contributions both on and off the pitch. Music, drinks, raffle prizes and friends, along with our incomparable MC John Hickey will ensure a great night of festivities will be had by all in attendance. The 2014 campaign was one of great success for the Green Briar O30’s team. They began the spring season in Division 3 of the ‘Over the Hill’ league. With a new management team of John Hickey and Keith O’Malley and a sprinkling of new talent on the pitch, the team was guided to successive promotions in both the spring and fall seasons. The result of which will see the team plying their trade in Division 1 next season. The fall season was something special to behold, with the team going undefeated from 10 league games and finishing with an overall league record for 2014 of 17W-1L-2D.
Since the club was founded in 2011, in as little as four years the O30’s team has fought its way up from Division 5 to Division 1. With the support of Dessie Kerins and Luke Lumberg from the Green Briar Pub, along with a group of committee members dedicated to success, the club will continue to go from strength to strength. ‘C’mon the Briar!’
