Boston based, Irish Welter-weight boxer Michael McLaughlin will continue his assault on the New England professional boxing scene this October when he makes an appearance at the 'Monster Brawl' fight night, a co-promotion between Golden Boy and Ken Casey of the Drop Kick Murphy's.
On October 30 at Memorial Hall in Plymouth, MA, some of the best boxing talent in Massachusetts and Ireland is scheduled to square off for what is set to be the biggest nights of the year in the New England's boxing scene calendar.
On that card is Irish pro-boxer McLaughlin who has made quite a name for himself on the Massachusetts circuit in recent years. He will face his toughest opponent yet, New England welter-weight champ Derek Silveria of Salem.
A native of County Donegal, McLaughlin, who currently ranks second in the Irish light middle weight division, is excited about the upcoming fight and is unfazed about being pitted against tough man Silveria, saying "I'm really looking forward to beating him up."
The southpaw fighter, who trains under the guidance of Martin Grealish & Brian Powers at the Grealish Gym, Dorchester says that preparation for the fight has been particularly intense for the last eight weeks.
"My trainers have been pushing me hard for this fight and along with my conditioning coach John O' Brien, I am in top shape."
"I am feeling sharp and very strong."
Fans of the Dorchester favorite who holds a 8-1-1 record will enjoy what is set to be an evenly matched fight against Silveria, who holds an equally impressive 10-1 record.
"It's going to be an entertaining evening," says McLaughlin.
The main event for the night will be a 10-round welterweight bout pitting former US Olympic Team member Danny O’Connor of Framingham (23-2) against the tough and determined Andrew Farmer (18-2). O’Connor is returning after a year’s absence due to an elbow injury, and is looking forward to fighting in front of his enthusiastic home-town fans.
Also on the boxing card is another Donegal native, Jason Quigley who will continue his pro career, The rising star in boxing, was the first Irish fighter to win a silver medal at the World Amateur Championships last year and has been training in Los Angeles after being recruited by Oscar DeLaHoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
Doors scheduled to open at 6pm, first bout to begin at 6:45. General Admission only $45, Mezzanine $65, floor $80, ringside $100.
