Over 250 members of Emerald Societies from across the United States will arrive in Boston on September 26 to take part in the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES) Fall Meeting.

The NCLESS was founded in 1995 as a means to unite law enforcement members from all Emerald Societies throughout the states and to preserve the Irish culture. In recent years, this annual conference has been held in the cities of San Francisco, New York, Baltimore, and this will be the first time since 1998, that the event will take place in Boston.

This year, the Emerald Society of the Boston Police Department (ESBPD) have collaborated with the Irish American Police Officers Association of Massachusetts (IAPOA) to host the event.

"We have planned social events surrounding the main meeting which is held on Saturday the 27th at the Back Bay Hilton, our host Hotel. In addition to our social events, we have encouraged our attendees to experience everything Boston has to offer," said Sean McCarthy, a spokesperson for Boston's chapter of the Emerald Society.

McCarthy added "Boston boasts the first police department in the nation as well as the first Irish born Police Officer - Bernard "Barney" McGuinniskin. Our city is often referred to as "The Capital of Irish America" and we want our visitors to see why."

As part of their itinerary attendees of NCLEES will be taking in the famous landmarks of Boston with a trip to Fenway, Sam Adams Brewery and a walk through the Irish Heritage Trail all planned.

Whilst many of the events are for members only, the public are welcome to attend a POW/MIA Silent Chair Dedication on September 25 at the Boston Police Headquarters and/or also welcome to take part in the 6th Annual "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day 5 k Road Race." which will take place in Hyde Park on September 28. All monies raised will benefit the charity 'Cops for kids with Cancer.'
