The American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland has announced that companies from the United States will create over 2,000 jobs in Ireland in the next few years.

This good news comes as Ireland’s recent figures show that Ireland’s unemployment figures have reached the highest level in the States history bringing the figures to 14 percent.

The new U.S. jobs expected over the coming years were discovered after 100 companies were questioned. The found that 72 percent planned on recruiting staff in 2010, while 68 percent had already taken on new staff.

The U.S multinational have 1,250 current vacancies. They are seeking out those involved in engineering, research and development, production, finance and office administration.

President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland, Lionel Alexander said: “While it is encouraging that the latest data from the CSO showed economic growth returning to Ireland, it will take time for this to translate into an increase in jobs. In this context, that U.S. companies are continuing to create employment in Ireland is all the more welcome.”

They also found that Ireland has become more competitive. The survey found that 81 percent of respondents noted a fall in business costs while doing business with Ireland.

Alexander also warned that these improvements had arisen through necessity during the recession and were therefore cyclical in nature.

“The success of Ireland in attracting this investment can get lost in the continuous doom and gloom stories we hear every day on our radio stations, on our television screens and in our newspapers,” said Alexander.
