Women of Influence

Murphy, Christina A.

DR. Christina A. Murphy is the senior director of Learning and Development at Century 21 Real Estate, and a professor at the Graduate School of Business at Touro College in New York.

Century 21 is the franchisor of the world’s largest residential real estate organization with more than 8,000 independently owned offices in over 73 counties. Touro is a Jewish sponsored independent institution of higher and professional education with 17,500 students in the U.S. and Europe.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Murphy earned a BA in American studies from Hofstra University, an MS in HR education from Fordham and an Ed.D in executive leadership from Fordham.
Murphy traces her Irish ancestry to Newry, Co. Down through her mother.  Her husband Brian is from Ireland, and they have one child.  They are traveling to Ireland in August to house hunt, as they plan on relocating in the next five to 10 years.

Murphy is a member of the Friends of Erin Scholarship program in Kearney, New Jersey and the Nutley Irish American Alliance. When Murphy is asked about what being Irish means to her, she thinks of the educational contributions so many Irish have made throughout the centuries.

“As an educator, of course I focus on education -- its quality, universality and accessibility are paramount. It was through its reputation as having a highly educated workforce that led to Ireland’s most recent Renaissance. However, this was nothing new,” she says.

“Irish monks are widely credited with preserving Europe’s learning and culture, and seeing to it that it was restored. Thus, it is often said that the Irish saved Western Civilization.

“Irish hospitality, wit and warmth are legendary among the nationalities here in America, and are a tradition and heritage that are passed on from generation to generation.”
