Women of Influence

Barrett, Úna

ÚNA Barrett, a gerontologist, is the founder of Positive Living Solutions, Inc., in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She advises, educates and provides services to baby boomers, adult children of seniors in transition, and elders.

“The objective of my work is to educate and promote living a healthy, independent and safe lifestyle to adults of all ages. We listen, and then provide solutions on the safest way to age in one’s home, downsize to a smaller home, move in with family, or move to a residential community,” says Barrett, a native of Tralee, Co. Kerry.

Barrett earned a BA from Lesley University and a master of science in gerontology with a concentration in management of aging services from UMass Boston. She is a member of the Irish Network Boston, a friend of Celtic studies at Harvard, the Center for Irish Programs at Boston College, and a former board member of the Irish International Immigration Center.

Barrett moved to the U.S. in 1981 because of the recession at home.
Barrett maintains her interest in Irish music, literature and theater in Boston, and in the Gaelic language when she travels home.
