David S. Tierney, MD is co-founder of Oceana Therapeutics, where he serves as a Director and as President & COO, overseeing day-to-day operations. A specialty therapeutic company, Oceana has rapidly established itself internationally with its U.S. headquarters in Edison, NJ and international operations run from Dublin. Previously, Tierney was President & CEO for Valera Pharmaceuticals where he implemented and executed a business plan to transition the Company from a science-based polymer research organization into an integrated specialty pharmaceutical company. Prior to Valera, Tierney served as President of Biovail Technologies, a division of Biovail Corporation and from 1997 through 1999 he held the position of Senior Vice President, Drug Development for Roberts Pharmaceutical. Tierney also spent eight years at Elan Corporation in a variety of management positions. Dublin born and raised Tierney was a recipient of a 2005 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and included in the 2005 and 2006 PharmaVOICE Top 100 Most Inspiring People. Tierney received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. His plan for the future is to develop Oceana Therapeutics Tierney into a global company focused on developing and commercializing medical products to address unmet and undersatisfied medical needs. Tierney is married to Suzanne, and they have three children. They reside in Rumson, New Jersey.
