Sullivan, Joseph

Joseph Patrick Sullivan is a private investor.  He is Chairman of the Board of Advisors of RAND Health, the largest nonprofit institution dedicated to shaping private and public sector responses to emerging health policy issues.  He is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the UCLA Medical Center, the third highest ranked hospital in the US. He is a member of the board of HCP, Inc. (HCP), the largest healthcare real estate investment trust. HCP owns or has investments in more than $15 billion of healthcare properties.  Sullivan chairs its Finance and Risk Management Committee and is a member of its Audit committee.  He is also on the board of Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (AMLN), a biopharmaceutical company concentrating on diabetes and metabolic diseases, chairs its Risk management and Finance committee and serves on its Corporate Governance Committee.  He is a board member of Maguire Properties (MPG) the largest owner of prime office buildings in downtown Los Angeles.  In addition, he is a director of CIGNA Corporation (CI), a global health care company with revenues of approximately $20 billion and is a member of the its Corporate Governance Committee. He also serves as a director of Cymetrix.  He is a Senior Strategic Advisor to Riordan, Lewis & Haden, a leading private equity firm based in Southern California. A third generation Irish American, Sullivan’s great grandfather came to Iowa from County Cork during the potato famine, and worked in the railroad industry. Sullivan’s father did too, becoming the top marketing officer for the New York Central Railroad and an accredited locomotive engineer. Sullivan’s father advised him to persue other career paths, something Sullivan believes was good advice. Sullivan is married to Carol.
