Murray, Joseph

Joseph Anthony Murray is Professor of Medicine and Immunology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, the first and largest integrated, not-for-profit group practice in the world. Doctors from every medical specialty work together to care for patients, joined by common systems and a philosophy of "the needs of the patient come first." More than 3,700 physicians, scientists and researchers, 3,200 residents, fellows and students, and 50,000 allied health staff work at Mayo Clinic, which has sites in Rochester, MN, Jacksonville, FL., and Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ. Limerick born Murray also serves as a Consultant and Research Clinician Investigator, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Mayo Clinic. Murray also serves as consultant and advisor to several companies in the US, EU, Australia and Ireland on new developments and technology both pharmaceutical, biotechnology and devices for the treatment of variety of gastrointestinal conditions. Murray’s plans for the future include: developing the celiac disease program into the premier program for study of this disease in North America, exploring the role of the mucosal immune system as a window through which we can manipulate the body’s responses to self and reduce the burden of autoimmune diseases, exploring the power of the intestine and its flora to treat human disease, and exploring new opportunities in the treatment of esophageal disorders. Murray is married with four children, and resides in Rochester, MN.
