Sullivan, John J.

JOHN J. Sullivan, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Washington, D.C., has extensive experience in international trade and investment matters.
Prior to working for the firm, he was nominated in 2007 and served as deputy secretary of commerce following his unanimous confirmation by the Senate. In this position, Sullivan played a huge role in the development and administration of U.S. trade law and policy.
At Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, his practice focuses on aspects of global commerce which includes import and export regulation, trade litigation and arbitration, foreign investment in the U.S., and U.S. foreign sanctions issues.  He also serves as a member of the firm’s Appellate and Constitutional Law and Public Policy Practice groups.
Sullivan received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a JD from Columbia University School of Law.
Sullivan’s traces his Irish roots through his maternal grandparents from Galway, and his paternal grandparents born in America to Irish parents from Kerry.
Sullivan is married with three children.
