Murray, John E.
JOHN E. Murray is a professor of law and the chancellor of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Murray received a BS from LaSalle University, a JD from the Catholic University of America and an S.JD from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Murray is a former dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Villanova University School of Law. In 2001, a building at Duquesne University’s School of Law was named in his honor, the Dr. John E. Murray, Jr. Pavilion.
Murray is widely regarded as the foremost authority in the U.S. on the law of contracts. He is the principal author of the biannual supplements to the landmark multiple volume treatise Corbin on Contracts (Lexis Publishing).
His own single volume treatise, Murray on Contracts (Lexis Publishing, 4th ed. 2001, 5th ed. to be published in 2010), is used by law students and practicing attorneys across America, and has been cited as authority in judicial opinions by numerous courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also the author of the Corbin on Contracts Desk Edition (Lexis Publishing 2009), a single-volume compendium of contract law.
Murray’s paternal grandparents hailed from Co. Cork. His maternal grandparents were from Belfast.
Murray and his wife Elizabeth have four children and six grandchildren.
