Hassett, Joseph
Joe Hassett serves as counsel to the Washington-based law firm of Hogan & Hartson LLP, where he was a partner from 1970 through 2007. He has tried jury and non-jury cases involving a wide variety of public and private issues, and has argued in appellate courts all over the country and in the United States Supreme Court.
A graduate of Canisius College (B.A., summa cum laude), Harvard University (LL.B., cum laude), and University College, Dublin (M.A., Ph. D.), Hassett is engaged in a trial and appellate practice focused on corporate and securities matters. A proud Irish-American whose great-grandparents emigrated from counties Clare and Cork, Hassett serves as counsel to the Embassy of Ireland.
He has published a book on W.B. Yeats, and has lectured on Yeats and other Irish writers at such venues as the Yeats International Summer School in Sligo, the James Joyce Summer School in Dublin, the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco, and Oxford University. Hassett and his wife Carol live in Washington, D.C. Their two children, Matthew and Meredith, are students at Brown and Tufts Universities, respectively.
