Durkan, Jenny A.
Jenny A. Durkan was recently nominated by President Obama to be the United States attorney for the Western District of Washington.
Durkan is known for both her successful trial practice and for her continued civic leadership. She has broad experience in criminal and civil law. She has handled a number of notable cases, including as trial counsel defending the election of Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire.
Durkan was appointed by three Seattle mayors to serve on multiple police oversight panels, and chaired the former attorney general’s task force on consumer privacy. She also taught trial advocacy at the University of Washington Law School.
Durkan was a founding board member of the Center for Women and Democracy and the Seattle Police Foundation.
She received a law degree from the University of Washington, and a BA from the University of Notre Dame.
Her grandfather, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1898, served in the Montana State legislature. Her father, who became an Irish citizen, served in the Washington State Legislature.
