Craig, Gregory

GREGORY Craig is the White House counsel for the Obama administration.  Craig was an early supporter of Obama’s presidential run and was a key advisor to his campaign.

 

Craig went to Harvard and graduated in 1967.  He received a law degree in 1971 from Yale Law School, where he met Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham and became lifelong friends with the couple.

 

A trial lawyer with extensive experience in a wide variety of cases, Craig has successfully defended individuals and entities in a number of high-profile criminal and civil proceedings.

 

He has also had a number of governmental positions. He was a foreign policy advisor to Senator Edward Kennedy and to Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

 

In September 1998, President Clinton appointed Craig to be assistant to the president and special counsel in the White House, where Craig served as quarterback of the president's team that was assembled to defend against impeachment. Craig was also a member of the president's trial team in the Senate and presented the president's defense with respect to Count One during that trial.

 

Craig has taught trial practice at both Yale and Harvard. He is married to Derry Noyes, a graphic designer who has designed several postage stamps for the U.S Postal Service. They have five children.
