James Patrick Cavanaugh is the senior partner at the Cavanaugh Law Firm in Omaha, Nebraska.  The firm, which Cavanaugh founded, is a specialty law firm concentrating on Social Security disability law.

Cavanaugh received a BA and a JD from Creighton University in Nebraska.  

Cavanaugh is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR). He has presented as a speaker and expert in the area of Social Security disability in multiple venues.

Cavanaugh is a former trial attorney with the Douglas County Public Defender, representing indigent clients, and a former administrative assistant to the mayor of Omaha.

Cavanaugh traces his Irish roots to Wexford through his father, and Mayo through his mother. He was the chair for Irish Omaha for Obama in 2008, and received the Omaha Hibernian of the Year award in 2002.

Cavanaugh is a member of the Irish American Cultural Institute, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Irish American Democrats.
He and his wife Leslie have four children.
