Harrington, Padraig

The Irish

Triple-major winning golfer Padraig Harrington is fast becoming the most famous Irish sportsman on the planet, and the Dublin native has done it all in less than 15 months.

In a career more known for a string of second place finishes, Harrington exploded into golf’s elite in August 2007 when he won his first British Open at Carnoustie.

Twelve months later he defended his Open title at Royal Birkdale, despite starting the tournament with a wrist injury.

The 37-year-old followed it up three weeks later by winning the U.S. PGA championship, becoming the first European to win back-to-back majors. That he has done all this while remaining affable and grounded is all the more impressive.

The father of two credits his transformation to hard work and to developing a stronger mental approach, and he aims to give Tiger Woods a real run for the World Number One spot over the coming seasons.
