Coughlin, Natalie

The Irish Americans

Michael Phelps was not the only American swimmer setting records at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Natalie Coughlin fought hard to defend several titles she held from the Athens Olympics in 2004 and became the first American female athlete in history to win six medals at a single Olympics.

Her gold medal in the 100m backstroke in addition to the two silver and three bronze medals brought her career Olympic medal count to an overall eleven – only one medal away from meeting the record of twelve Olympic career medals in women’s swimming, Coughlin will be one to watch in London in 2012.
