O'Reilly, Heather

The Irish Americans

This past summer the U.S. women’s soccer team brought home gold when the women beat Brazil in the final.

Striker Heather O’Reilly, only twenty-four years old, now in her sixth year playing for the U.S. National team, was there to share in the glory.

O’Reilly started in thirteen out of the fourteen Olympic matches and was the second youngest player at the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The New Jersey native traces her Irish roots back three generations to Longford and Cavan.

She was named U.S. Soccer's Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2004 and plays for Sky Blue FC in the Women’s Professional Soccer League.
