The Irish Americans
Ellen Moran is the White House Director of Communications. She replaced Kevin Sullivan, who held the position in the Bush Administration. Though she was a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter during primary season, Moran has worked in the past with David Plouffe and David Axelrod, both of whom were key players in the Obama campaign.
Ellen managed advertising and other campaign activities for the Democratic National Committee and directed a $50 million issue advocacy campaign for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and most recently, she worked as the executive director of EMILY’s List, a political action committee that supports the efforts of pro-choice female candidates.
Her political experience includes working on the national campaign staff of Tom Harkin’s 1992 presidential campaign; helping plan both Clinton inaugurals; and conducting democracy work in Indonesia for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Moran, who is “almost all Irish American,” was born in Troy, New York and grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts. She was educated at Wheaton College where she studied political science and English literature. She is married to Kirk Fabel, with two children
