Concern Worldwide has been serving the world’s neediest people for over 40 years.
The organization was founded in 1968 by Limerick-born priest Father Aengus Finucane who found himself in the middle of the bitter civil war between Nigeria and Biafra.
Headquarterd in Dublin, Concern now has a team of over 3,600 highly skilled and committed workers and an on-the-ground presence in 28 of the world’s poorest countries. Concern set up its U.S. operation in 1994, under director Siobhan Walsh, and in the past 14 years, thanks to the work of Siobhan and the American Board, chaired by Tom Moran, the profile of the organization has never been higher.
Known in the corporate world as a savvy businessman – he is the chairman, president and CEO of Mutual of America life insurance company – Tom has made a major commitment to Concern.
Under his leadership, and with great assistance from Mutual’s Vice President of External Affairs, Ed Kenney, Concern’s annual “Seeds of Hope” dinner in New York City has become a major source of funding for the organization.
The 2008 dinner on December 8 honored Xerox chairman and CEO Anne Mulcahy, and raised over $1 million.
