Dermot J. O’Brien is executive vice president of human resources & corporate services at TIAA-CREF. He is a member of the company’s executive management team. Dermot joined TIAA-CREF in 2003. He oversees all strategy related to human resources and directs corporate services, which encompasses corporate real estate, facilities, corporate security and strategic procurement. Dermot has over 20 years experience in financial services human resources. Before joining TIAA-CREF, he held several senior positions at Merrill Lynch & Co., including head of HR for global debt markets. His financial services career started at Morgan Stanley.
Dermot is a member of the Human Resource-50 Group, a knowledge-sharing group of human resource officers from around the world. He has volunteered with Junior Achievement for years, teaching children financial literacy. A Dublin native, Dermot holds an undergraduate degree in finance from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. He is the son of the late Dermot O'Brien, 1957 All-Ireland GAA captain for County Louth and well-known Irish entertainer.
