U.S. creates 2,000 jobs for chronically unemployed Irish

Ireland's unemployment figures are at 14 percent.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland has announced that companies from the United States will create over 2,000 jobs in Ireland in the next few years.

This good news comes as Ireland’s recent figures show that Ireland’s unemployment figures have reached the highest level in the States history bringing the figures to 14 percent.

The new U.S. jobs expected over the coming years were discovered after 100 companies were questioned. The found that 72 percent planned on recruiting staff in 2010, while 68 percent had already taken on new staff.

The U.S multinational have 1,250 current vacancies. They are seeking out those involved in engineering, research and development, production, finance and office administration.

President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland, Lionel Alexander said: “While it is encouraging that the latest data from the CSO showed economic growth returning to Ireland, it will take time for this to translate into an increase in jobs. In this context, that U.S. companies are continuing to create employment in Ireland is all the more welcome.”

They also found that Ireland has become more competitive. The survey found that 81 percent of respondents noted a fall in business costs while doing business with Ireland.

Alexander also warned that these improvements had arisen through necessity during the recession and were therefore cyclical in nature.

“The success of Ireland in attracting this investment can get lost in the continuous doom and gloom stories we hear every day on our radio stations, on our television screens and in our newspapers,” said Alexander.

It is interesting that Ireland is reported to have an open-door immigration policy, but this excludes US citizens who want to live and work in Ireland, and yet it is American companies that help Ireland provide its people with a living.
I'd love to know where they are getting these jobs, more people have lost their jobs ere this month, things are worse than ever, they are taking half of our social securty money and we have lost our health care. I blame our Governments and Governments who are in cahoots with America bargaining away businesses and giving our jobs to people who don't live here. I have never seen our country, the USA, in such dire straits and I've been here all of my long life. None of us, including Ireland should be out of work.
Why is The United States creating jobs for the Irish, when we have cronic "un-employment" in the US?
That's nonsense, Mairin. Most of the immigrants are hanging around even though they're not working. You see them wherever you go in Ireland. In fact Irish people in downtown Dublin streets are very much in a minority. What the articles refer to is a small number, but it's still running up to 50 million euro a year according to the Independent. That would build how many schools?
Very true, GeorgeDavis. All the new immigrants to Ireland are doing just that...showing up to collect the dole and buggering back to their own countries. It's really the fault of the airlines who offer such cheap fares between these countries that these people can easily afford to fly in just to pick up a check! Just kiddin'....
The Sunday newspapers are pointing out that when the ash loud prevented air travel in Europe, there was a sudden drop in the number of people claiming welfare in ireland. The only logical interpretation? People from countries like Poland, Latvia etc. are fying in to Ireland to pick up their welfare benefits, maybe do a little shopping, have a drink with friends etc. Then they go home to Poland, Latvia or wherever, where the Irish benefit translates into a good standard of living. The poster who said he had no sympathy for the Irish unemployment "problem" was right on the money. It's hard to have pity for stupidity.
The headline is inaccurate. The jobs are not for "chronically unemployed Irish", they're for unemployed people in Ireland. So, given ireland's crazy Open Door immigration policy, you can expect to see up to one third of those jobs given to foreign migrants. Americans should be very wary of projects of this sort. If Ireland was really facing an unemployment crisis it would stop issuing work permits to foreign workers. It hasn't done that, indeed every month thousands of foreign workers--many of them from places like India, China, pakistan etc. get work visas. Ireland's unemployment "crisis" is a sham.
