On Monday afternoon thousands of websites experienced downtime as GoDaddy, one of the worlds largest domain registrars went down. On Twitter Anonymous Own3r, the security leader of Anonymous, is taking responsibility for the attack.

He said “it's not Anonymous coletive the attack is coming just from me (sic).”

They added “I'm taking godaddy down bacause well i'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that i can not talk now (sic).”

Earlier on Monday GoDaddy tweeted “Status Alert: Hey, all. We're aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We're working on it.” However, they did not offer any insight as to the source of the crash.

@TibitXimer tweeted "Basically, every GoDaddy site on the planet just crashed."

Last Friday the White House announced that is preparing a cyber security Executive Order. It is planned that his will act as a surrogate until Congress can come to an agreement on a bipartisan legislation to protected the United States’ computer infrastructure.

Earlier this year GoDaddy announced they would support the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). This controversial legislation if approved would have changed the US Government’s ability to monitor the Internet. GoDaddy reversed their stance on the legislation after a massive protest by their clients.

The claim that this cyber attack was at the hands of Anonymous has not been confirmed by other social media accounts affiliated with the associated hacktivist group.
