Internet porn destroying many Irish marriages

Bookmark and Share

Internet porn and cyber sex are among the main reasons why marriages in Ireland are breaking down in record numbers. says a Catholic marriage agency.

Accord, the Catholic Marriage Care Service, says 15 percent of couples are in difficulty because of a spouse accessing Internet porn or gambling sites.

Ruth Barror, Accord national director, told the Irish Examiner that "stress levels have gone up and there is more depression among people," she said.

"Financial problems are very much to the fore and a number of people are suffering from Internet problems like pornography, cyber sex and gambling. They are distractions in a relationship, a form of escapism."

Liam Lally, acting director of counseling, said problems surrounding Internet use increased dramatically.

"Some are using the Internet for genuine work purposes but with people bringing work home, particularly for international companies, they are not available for family life," said Lally.

"Online gambling is now quite easy to do at home and people are also getting addicted to playing games. Pornography is also a problem. It is linked with a form of infidelity because a person is getting sexual gratification from the Internet instead of having a relationship with a spouse. When a partner finds out they feel very let down. They take it as a partner rejecting them and turning to cyber sex."

Barror also said that couples needed to be there for each other to have a healthy marriage.

"They need to give each other and themselves time and they have to have fun together, that’s something people forget very quickly," she continued.

"They also need to show appreciation for what they do for one another and talk through difficulties together by communicating."

I haven't been breast fed since my pastor was transferred.
(.../Cont’d) Ah well, it’s simple really – isn’t it? We all want to be breast-fed again. Or go back into where we were safe – in a mother’s womb. It does not surprise me that pornography is rampant on the internet. The problem is that, when people are so desirable for what they once knew, and can no longer get, the pornographic industry abusively feeds that hunger, typically without any satisfaction for the one who desires it. And they pay money for it – sheesh! This is why poor people commit rapes – a cruel search for a happiness that is no longer achievable in teen years or adulthood in every religion and none. It’s an inexcusable, abusive, invasive attempt to get the ‘home’ taste or feeling; the vast rest of the good world moves on into real adulthood and a search for the meaning of life, like the meaning of why a mother would bother to breast-feed her baby. Free-thinkers are free to ask, ponder, wonder and welcome to finally and graciously discover. No true marriage, Irish or not, was destroyed by pornography. Pornography destroys itself and the people who stupidly fall for it. Just ask Virgin Mary herself, next time you have a quiet moment.
As a free-thinking Catholic, I can freely say that I love the sight of a woman’s bare boobs. It reminds me, as a man, of what a woman’s boobs’ real purpose is for. I love to see a mother in a private or public space breast-feeding her baby, despite the tut-tut looks of some (pornographically-minded?) people. As a first-time potential father, I admit I was delighted by the shock of the first taste of mother-milk in my then-developing pregnant wife while I made love with her because I was suddenly sweet-fully reminded of a taste I had long forgotten: I was breast-fed as a baby. Amazing how one’s human memory bank works. Now that I’ve got that bit re-awakened in memories, let’s look at why pornography attempts to show why men and women (Catholic and non-Catholic) should like women’s bare boobs and other bits and women the men’s bits. (Contd.../)
freethinker666, im a person who was brough up catholic but do not believe in anything now. Are you American, do you realise our marriages last longer than yours!
To jacersisityourself You said "Even non-religious families are destroyed by the intrinsic evil of pornography" First of all you offer no proof what-so-ever that your statement is anything more than bullshit. But on the outside chance you are correct, it doesn't say a hell of a lot for the moral values of you Catholics. If the sight of a bare boob sends you to the arms of the devil, perhaps you faith is not as strong as you would have us believe.
I just read about the priest in Brazil that forced an eleven year old boy to give him a blow job, and the catholics are worried about Internet porn????? If you catholics weren't so sexually repressed, perhaps your marriages would last longer. I have had the good fortune to have known some very creative and adventurous women in my life, (they weren't Irish) and some of the best sex was while watching some of the worst porn.
Both ACCORD and Frank Gallagher are guilty of erroneous tripe. I live in Dublin, am open minded, meet a wide range of people in my work and would say that what is mentioned above is way down the list of peoples' priorities in making the world a better place. Ruth Barror would be better off cleansing the altar of sexual depravity than thinking up hysterical page fillers. Frank Gallagher should have added a bit of balance.
Steber2000 is conning him/ or her/self. Even non-religious families are destroyed by the intrinsic evil of pornography. KmcSinger also belies. Ask any 'pornography family' that tried to stay together.
I am sure it's true the porn is a big problem everywhere.
Everyone has their opinion about this but no one has any facts. Yes, if you are religious then porn goes against your beliefs, but you should refrain from pushing your beliefs upon others. Not everyone has the same beliefs as you. The fact is; if a marriage fails, the reason most certainly is not the porn itself but an underlying problem such as an obsession or addiction to something. Take god out of the equasion along with addiction, and it is fairly harmless. I myself do not indulge, but I don't see where the harm is in the people who do indulge, in moderation, of course.
I think there is a ine line between free speech and damaging pornography. People will view it because it ist here in any event. We never seem to realize it but up to 70 per cent of the internet is porn--amazing
The couple that views porn together, stays together!
Hey freethinker (?) you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. We MUST all realize that the easy access to this garbage is extremely destructive to the family and to the soul. Before you sign on to this stuff ask yourself "What does this activity do for me?". How does it benefit me, make me stronger, better. I'm not talking about pleasure but strength and growth. If it doesen't make you better stay away from it! Don't be stupid, it is poison and a lie from the devil. Wouldn't you move away from a fire? This will burn your mind and your soul.
Freethinker, there is nothing regarding real thinki8ng in you.YOu speak as a mindless one.
Porn is obviously filth, unadulterated filth and total disrespect for the human body, a complete attack on God. What is the matter with people? So lost, so faithless, so God-less. . .the world is in trouble.
Wrong, 'freethinker.' My gosh, are you gutless. A typical, hard-core, porn-loving liberal. You don't even bother to refute a single thing said in the article; you just blurt a single expletive and leave it at that. You have the maturity of a three-year-old (who's never been disciplined), with a dirty adult's mouth. Here's a single word, right back at you: PHONY.
Internet porn is also destroying American marriages. A lovely close-knit US family that I’ve known for years know has completely fallen apart in recent months because of it. When long-standing families start to disintegrate because of the effects the Internet has, it must be high time for it to be policed. If not, then Society will disintegrate. Take what happened with Phoebe Prince over online messages inter alia and other suicides that have occurred through internet stuff – Facebook is one of the worst for obscene postings against people, especially young vulnerable people and all its management can say is “We’re sorry it happened and we do our best but life goes on for us...” Yep, it’s definitely time to call in internet Power Rangers. Or form them if not already there.
Some of the producers of porno films also ran prostitution rings. One of them became a focus of HIV/AIDS among their actors. Jesus tells us that "... if we look upon a woman with lust in our heart, we commit adultery." One of the Biblical names for the devil is "The Prince of the Air." That probably also means the airwaves.
Bullshit
