10 things you need to know before you go to Ireland

Ireland, beautiful Ireland.

10. Irish people have their own concept of time. They don’t adhere to schedules too well and are never on time. Advise: if it’s in your schedule to meet someone for lunch at 1:00 p.m. suggest meeting at 12:30 p.m. and you should be okay.

dlw12183, thanks for the info on the credit cards, we had a bit of trouble in some of the smaller towns last year. The cities were fine, will call our place and let them know. Come on all you naysayers, millions of Americans can claim Irish roots, why not look on the bright side and let them go and find their families places and in the mean time they are putting money into the economy. Bed and Breakfasts if you need them are great value. Who has $100 bills these days? Sure it is the same trying to get euros here, our bank had to order them J
April, I really enjoyed this story. Regarding number 10, this especially happens with the older rellies, my brother calls it the 45 minute goodbye. You are right about the foul language, I worked in the civil service before emigrating in the 80's and my office mates had a swear box and charged me 5p for every off color word. We had enough for a grand pi** up before I left and money left over for a pressie too. I use that story about craic in my sociology classes about different cultures, that and the two finger salute. I teach them how to order two of anything without getting black eyes. You made my day J

ALL CURRENT BAD NEWS CONCERNING THE ECONOMY IN IRELAND..LETS BE HONEST..THE IRISH ARE VERY CAPABLE OF DEALING WITH ALL PROBLEMS....LOOK AT OUR HISTORY..ENOUGH SAID!!!
to haasny007, having an Irish passport through your granny or whoever, doesn't make you Irish. it only shows that you are afraid to travel on a us passport because of your government's foreign policy of interference etc. Irish passports are precious and should not be given to 2nd generation irish americans who couldn't tell you the Irish presidents name, among other facts on Ireland, if you paid them.
It is quite interesting and educative. Ireally loved to visit Ireland.Ireland is my dream country to visit.
ad 7. don't tell locals that you are Irish unless you have a passport to prove it (granny passport counts).
be ready to get ripped off when doing anything like shopping, eating out, drinking infact doing just about anything! our country is being run by complete co-cksu-ckers and they have taxes its people right up the a-ss! so it follows on down to you the customer! great country but!
Quite interesting. We did not have any trouble traveling in ireland because everyone was so nice and we were on our best manners. A smile can help in any situation.
The most important thing to do is to let your credit card companies know when you will be in Ireland, otherwise the fraud unit will be shutting down the use of your credit cards. The next important thing is not to take $100.00 US bill to convert. Even the Bank of Ireland would not take mine.
