Italians in Australia not only have a vote in the Italian elections but their very own representative elected in Australia who goes to Italy to sit in their parliament. The Australian system makes voting compulsory even for Australians living abroad, under pain of fines or imprisonment. The Irish system doesn't want to extend voting rights to those whom the country encourages to leave post haste but from whom they expect remittances. To paraphrase the slogan of the American War of Independence, NO DONATIONS WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
