Irish students left homeless in Brooklyn scam

I AM THE PROUDEST IRISH AMERICAN YOU'LL FIND ANYWHERE. HOWEVER, WHEN YOU READ ALL THE COMMENTS ON THIS IRISH-SITE LONG ENOUGH, YOU REALIZE THE DEPTH OF ARROGANCE AND HATE THE IRISH HAVE FOR THEIR OWN-KIND.

Only in the U.S.A you say, pity. kevin325 I wouldn't even want to visit New York to dangerous.

These were idiots to begin with - and come on, seriously how did they even expect to pay the rent of $1100 per month if they werent even earning that much themselves per week. seems to me the fake landlords werent the only eejits in this story - maybe these lads will learn a real lesson on life - act dumb and you'll be treated dumb!! Any idiot would have known after 3 weeks of no progress they were being had and sorry but if his uncle lived there why didnt they get "adults" to go along with them. They were mugs and they got had for being stupid! And i'm not sure i even believe they were dont out of "thousands" - sounds like they're looking to reap more than they put into it to begin with with sob stories - grow up lads you're in the real world!!!

As i tell my kids regularly "listen to your gut feelings". If it doesn't feel right run like hell. I believe that those uncomfortable feelings we get about situations are our guardian angels screaming DANGER. Don't ignore them and you will stay safe.

These two creeps broke the law. But so did these youngsters who came to work on a toursit visa.

So many good kids who've had little exposure to bad people have no experienced adult to guide them when they visit a distant location.It's easy enough for us to say it sounded like a scam from the beginning, But they were inexperienced. If anyone is coming from Ireland to the Detroit area, the Gaelic League and Irish American Club has some good people. We may be old fuddy duddies, but we'd like to help keep the kids safe, after all, we have kids too.

Holy crap this had scam not only written on it from the get go but was screaming it- if it's to good to be true IT IS!

Shameful of those men to take advantage of these students. .........Hopefully they will get their money back and enjoy the rest of their stay. Poor introduction to New York.........

Scams happen everywhere. An accountant I knew once, who was imprisoned for embezzlement over his gambling addiction, set up a website for Chinese and other Far East students' to be taught English here in Ireland. All fees payable up front before arrival; simple cheap off the shelf English learning textbooks were posted on receipt of the fees. The students arrived to find no school existed for them. Needless to say the man was traced through his website address and imprisoned again.

New York is a nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there.

lets hope for the students sake that they are going to take a course in using common sense,,,geessss
