A major search is underway for Oliver O'Grady, the elusive Limerick priest who was deported to Ireland 10 years ago after being jailed for sexually abusing two boys. American law firm Manly, McGuire and Stewart now want to serve the defrocked Irish priest with papers for a civil action on behalf of his alleged victims.

The firm has hired a private detective to track down the Limerick man who has been reported to be living in Limerick, Dublin and also Holland, and may now be residing in a hostel in Dublin city center.

Patrick Wall, one of the U.S. representatives of the law firm, is a former Roman Catholic Priest and Benedictine monk, and is an expert on the abuse crisis in the U.S. Catholic Church where he has been consulted on more than 200 cases of clerical abuse in the United States.

Wall has been pursuing the alleged Irish child abuser for over a year and recommends he should be placed in a 'locked-down psychiatric facility, where he won't pose a danger to children.' Wall describes O'Grady as 'the Hannibal Lector of the clerical world.'Last year O'Grady was discovered working with children in Holland and disappeared shortly afterwards. Now private detectives are on his trail.

Grady was  the subject of the 2006 Academy Award-nominated documentary Deliver Us From Evil. O'Grady said he wanted the film to serve as the "most honest confession of [his] life." He detailed how he preyed on children. He claimed church officials knew about his abuses but protected him by moving him from parish to parish. When questioned whether his bishop knew that there were claims that he had abused children in 1976 and before, O'Grady confirmed this and that the diocese responded by moving him to another parish.

Representatives of the U.S. law firm arrived in Dublin last week in a bid to serve O'Grady with new lawsuits of alleged child abuse in a Californian diocese.

The hierarchy of the Irish church have the same reluctance that the American hierarchy have in accepting their part in facilitating and enabling sexual abusive priests and bishops. Where the pope accepted the resignations of a couple of bishops, he refused to accept others. This sends a very poor message to Catholics as well as to the rest of society. Not counting Bernard Cardinal Law of Boston who was run out of town only to be kicked upstairs to St. Mary Major in Rome, no bishop in the United States has been disciplined or censured for his complicity in covering up for sexual abusive prelates. It is noteworthy that no resignations were ever demanded though many should have been. Others like Cardinal Mahony in LA, Bishop Murphy in Rockville Centre, NY and Bishop John McCormack up there in New England somewhere, should have been removed but never were. The RCC has a long way to go before it stems the loss of credibility. Accountability and transparency is as non-existant in Ireland as it is in the United States. The Irish can and will face the TRUTH, the catholic haters can have their say, but time has a way of making the hidden TRUTH surface, pedopliles are in every religion, every walk of life, and will always be looking to be in positions of trust It is already surfacing in a lot of religions and organisations around children, but not getting the same media attention.
So JamieM, if it has nothing to do with being a Catholic, where exactly can we find the outcry, the unending grinding of teeth and wringing of hands against any others than "those evil Catholic priests!" You know that the highest percentage of sexual abuse occurs at home and in schools and certainly at the hands of prot pastors, and Jewish and muslim clergy... yet neither on IC, nor in the MSM will we find the constant barrage of stories of abuse and litigation against any of those responsible. -- Don't you find that even a bit unfair?
Since there is no pschiatric cure for sex offenders, manmade actions are needed such as permanetly disabling them from "fuctioning," via surgery or medication. Attach ankle bracelets that report the offenders whereabouts 24/7, clergy ot not, offenders of children and women.
Sexually abusing a child is a crime and anyone who engages in this despicable act is a criminal who must be held accountable. It has nothing to do with being a Catholic. A priest or a pastor, or anyone else, should NOT be given a "free pass" because of their vocation or religion. There should be ZERO TOLERANCE for child abusers, whoever they are.
Here's another Priest who was recently extradited from the United states to stand trial for molesting a young boy in Galway. The Irish times runs a story, but refuses to name him for "legal" reasons. But his name is all over the internet thanks to America's first ammendment right Presenting Pedophile and pervert: Reverend Francis Markey, AN 82-year-old priest has been sent forward for trial on two charges of sexually assaulting a boy in the west of Ireland more than four decades ago. The priest appeared before Loughrea District Court in Co Galway yesterday charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year old boy at separate locations in the west of Ireland in 1968. The priest, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court next month. The priest, who was remanded on continuing bail, will appear before Galway Circuit Criminal Court on October 5th. Insp Michael Coppinger gave evidence of serving the accused man with a book of evidence prior to yesterday’s sitting of Loughrea District Court. The priest had been granted bail at a previous court sitting in July despite Garda objections. He had arrived in Ireland in July on foot of an extradition warrant. Defending solicitor Vincent Shannon told a previous court hearing that his client suffered from a number of ailments and had mobility difficulties. Mr Shannon said suitable accommodation had been found for him in Dublin and the priest would remain there until his trial. The accused priest, wearing black trousers, striped shirt and jacket, did not speak during the brief hearing yesterday in Loughrea. Judge Geoffrey Browne remanded the defendant on existing bail on his own surety of €2,400 and an independent surety of €10,000. The priest had been ordered to surrender his passport at a previous court hearing and report weekly to a Garda station in Dublin close to the address where he will reside.
Just a continuance of anti catholic articles by Irish Central.
Doesn't fail, does it? Hurry folks, it's your bi-weekly Catholic slam-fest-fix courtesy of IC.-- Such a predictable way to attract vultures! And yes, the usual flesh eaters are present; they may not have much up in the attic, but their gutters are brimming; so they will empty their bile duct and feel accomplished, until the next installment that is.-- So stay tuned Catholic haters, IC will not disappoint you.
Chase him all the way! - to God's forgiveness.
Deporting him is much the same as shifting him from one parish to another. Why wasn't he arrested when he arrived in Ireland and tossed into prison?
He is most likely safe in Sovereign Vatican
This makes me sick to the stomach. Hang him.
