Fitzpatrick
In South Africa, Sir James Percy FitzPatrick (1862-1931) was a politician and pioneer of the fruit industry. The son of Irish immigrants, he later became an author and wrote the famous children’s book Jock of the Bushveld.
A prominent name in the hotel business, John Fitzpatrick is chairman and CEO of the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group, North America, which operates three hotels in New York City. John joined the Group which his father Paddy Fitzpatrick founded. He relocated to the United States and has found success in New York under the hotel name which has become a household one in Ireland.
Art “Fitz” Fitzpatrick was at one time the most well known artists in the automobile advertising industry. By 1952, Fitz was working for Mercury, Lincoln, Nash, Plymouth, Kaiser, and Buick. He continued working exclusively with Buick for a time and later with Pontiac. In 2005, his work on the “America on the Move: 1950s Sports Cars” stamp was placed in the Smithsonian. He was an artistic consultant for the Disney/Pixar hit film Cars and continues creating artwork well into his eighties.
Another artist of the Fitzpatrick clan is Irish painter Jim Fitzpatrick. He is perhaps most famous for creating the iconic two-tone image of Che Guevara in 1968 which can be seen in any number of forms on clothing and in graffiti still today. He also contributed artwork for Thin Lizzy and Sinead O’Connor’s albums. His true passion is for Celtic artwork, as Jim produces lavish illustrations for books of mythology and calendars featuring Celtic themes.
Tony Fitzpatrick (1958-) is a Chicago-based Irish-American artist who has worked with filmmaker Jonathan Demme. He began as a printmaking artist and has moved towards drawing and mixed-media work. He is represented in the Art Institute of Chicago and MOMA, among other museums.
Best known for her pop song which was played at every high school graduation in the last ten years, Vitamin C or Colleen Fitzpatrick is an American pop singer and actress. Her hits “Graduation (Friends Forever)” and “Smile” cracked the Top 40 charts. She tried her hand at acting but is now focusing on releasing new music.
